A slice of royal history just went under the hammer — and the price will make your jaw drop

A Range Rover once owned and personally driven by Queen Elizabeth II has sold at auction for a staggering £175,000. That’s more than double what experts expected, who originally valued it

between £50,000 and £70,000.

The car in question is a 2006 third-generation V8 Supercharged Range Rover, delivered straight to the late Queen by Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations. She used it between 2006 and 2008, often spotted behind the wheel at Windsor Castle or even at public events like the 2007 Royal Windsor Horse Show.

This wasn’t just any luxury SUV, either. It came with subtle modifications fit for a monarch: special security and communications equipment, custom grab handles to make getting in and out easier, and even a dog guard — a sweet nod to Her Majesty’s beloved corgis.

Finished in a classic Tonga Green (a royal household favorite) with Oxford Sand leather and burr walnut trim, the car has clocked up nearly 120,000 miles. Still, its royal provenance — and surprisingly good condition — helped it achieve that record-breaking sale at the 2025 Silverstone Festival, where it was offered by Iconic Auctioneers.

Rob Hubbard, the auction house’s managing director, summed it up perfectly:

“Vehicles with this level of historical connection very seldom come to market. This particular Range Rover offers a unique blend of British automotive engineering and royal heritage.”

And with a Jaguar-derived 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine under the hood, it’s not just historically significant — it’s also a serious piece of machinery. In fact, this is believed to be the only Range Rover of its kind ever owned by the Royal Family. Photo by Joel Rouse/ Ministry of Defence, Wikimedia commons.
