Walkers issues urgent crisp recall over undeclared milk allergy risk

A major snack recall has been issued after Walkers confirmed that one of its popular crisp multipacks could pose a potential health risk to people with milk allergies.

The recall affects Honey Hot Crisps multipacks, after concerns emerged that some packets may contain Cheese and Onion seasoning that is not listed on the label. According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), the seasoning could include milk, making it dangerous for individuals who are allergic or intolerant to milk or milk products.

Why the crisps are being recalled

The FSA warned that the product may contain milk despite the allergen not appearing on the packaging.

In a statement, the agency said the product “may contain milk, making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to milk or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.”

Customers who have a milk allergy have been strongly advised not to eat the crisps.

Affected product details

The recall specifically applies to:

Walkers Honey Hot Crisps multipack

Pack size: 6 x 25g bags

 Batch code: GBB 584 031

Best before: 16 May 2026

Anyone who has purchased the affected product can contact Walkers’ customer care team or visit the company’s support website to arrange a full refund.

What customers should do

Consumers who have bought the multipack and have a milk allergy or lactose intolerance should avoid eating the crisps. Walkers has urged customers to contact its Customer Care Line (0800 274 777) for assistance.

The FSA said the company is also working with allergy support organisations to ensure people who may be at risk are informed about the recall.

Part of a wider wave of product recalls

The crisp recall comes amid several recent food safety alerts.

Earlier, Asian food brand Kelly Loves withdrew its sushi ginger jars sold at Asda and Waitrose after reports that some jars could contain pieces of glass.

Meanwhile, retailers TK Maxx and Homesense previously recalled Lokumella Mini Pistachio Bars following fears the chocolate products may contain undeclared traces of milk. The affected bars were sold between January and March 2025.

Food safety authorities continue to urge consumers to check recall notices carefully, particularly if they suffer from food allergies. Photo by amazon.co.uk
