Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been awarded the prestigious Sheldon Medal by the University of Oxford in recognition of his company Ineos' contributions to scientific research.
The medal, which is custom-made and features a portrait of Sir Jim, was presented to him by Professor Irene Tracey, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University.
The university honored the billionaire Monegasque resident for Ineos' significant support of research, particularly its £100 million donation in 2021. This donation, described as a "transformational gift" by the Vice-Chancellor, helped establish the Ineos Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research (IOI), which focuses on tackling antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Sir Jim is the eleventh recipient of the Sheldon Medal since its introduction in 2002. His Ineos co-owners, John Reece and Andy Currie, were also recognized during the ceremony. Photo by Kaofenlio, Wikimedia commons.
