The UK is bracing for a sharp drop in temperatures after enjoying a mild weekend, according to the Met Office. While Sunday is expected to bring highs of up to 16°C, temperatures could
plummet to as low as -7°C on Monday night.
Despite the relatively warm temperatures on Sunday, large parts of the UK will experience wet and windy weather, particularly in Wales and north-west England.
“The rest of the weekend is looking rather mild,” Met Office spokeswoman Becky Mitchell said. “We’re expecting highs of 15°C to 16°C on Sunday, but it will also be wet and windy. Various bands of rain will move in from the west, which could be heavy at times, and the entire country will experience breezy conditions.”
She added that western areas will bear the brunt of the rainfall, but there will also be occasional dry spells. The heaviest rain is likely in Wales and north-west England, while the highest temperatures are expected in south-west England, potentially reaching 16°C.
“For south-east England, there will be showers at times, with brighter spells in the afternoon. Temperatures will peak around 15°C,” she explained.
The mild conditions are expected to give way to significantly colder weather as the new week begins.
“Starting on Monday, colder weather will set in, with temperatures dropping below average,” Ms. Mitchell said. “We’ll see showery outbreaks of rain and northerly winds on Monday, followed by a band of rain moving in from the west on Tuesday.”
Daytime temperatures are forecast to hover in the mid-single figures, making for chilly conditions. Frosty nights are also expected, with Monday night likely to be the coldest of the week.
“In parts of rural Scotland, temperatures could fall as low as -7°C overnight on Monday,” she noted.
