Buckingham Palace has announced an investigation after reports emerged of a staff member’s arrest following a Christmas party. A Palace spokesperson assured the public that “appropriate
action” would be taken in light of the incident.
According to The Sun, a female staff member was arrested at a bar in Victoria, central London, on Tuesday evening. The situation unfolded after an informal social event that included several members of the Palace’s household staff.
The Palace spokesperson clarified in a statement to the BBC: “We are aware of an incident outside the workplace involving a number of Household staff who had previously attended an early evening reception at the Palace. While this was an informal social gathering and not an official Palace Christmas party, the facts will be fully investigated. A robust disciplinary process will be followed, and appropriate action will be taken as necessary.”
The Metropolitan Police provided details of the arrest, confirming that officers were called to a bar on Victoria Street at 9:21 p.m. on December 10. They responded to reports that a customer had smashed glasses and attempted to assault a staff member at the venue.
A 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of common assault, criminal damage, and being drunk and disorderly. She was taken into custody and released the following evening after receiving a penalty notice for disorder.
